Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) $220.00
An appropriate energy balance contributes to the maintenance of body weight. This means that the amount of food you eat (energy intake) should be equivalent to your body’s energy expenditure (metabolic processes, activity, and exercise).
However, the body’s energy expenditure can be difficult to determine. The resting metabolic rate, or the amount of calories used in a day, changes with age, activity and body composition. Estimating the metabolic rate via prediction using formulas is often inaccurate. The RMR comprises only 70% of your daily energy expenditure with the remainder coming from activity, exercise, and the thermic effect of feeding which need to be calculated as percentages of the RMR itself.
With indirect calorimetry, a simple 20 minute breathing test, an exercise physiologist can measure your RMR and assist you with determining your total daily energy expenditure. This is a valuable test for understanding your nutritional requirements and/or revealing metabolic barriers to weight loss or gain.
Exercise Capacity (VO2max) $220
The maximal amount of oxygen one can consume during exercise is labelled the VO2max. This measurement provides insight into your aerobic fitness level and your health. The higher the VO2 max the more exercise one is capable of performing and the better the function of the heart, lungs, and muscles. The American College of Sports Medicine states that the VO2 max is the single best predictor of all cause mortality in adults.
At FitMetabolism, we use gold-standard testing to measure your VO2 max and reveal the specifics of your heart rate, training zones, and your functional age.
